How effective is Scat? Scat is a water soluble powder that has been developed to help repel birds and animals from eating valuable fruit crops and ornamentals. Scat has a bitter taste that repels a wide variety of birdlife, domestic pets, rats, possums and rabbits. It is not always 100% effective in every situation as all birds and animals react differently to environment pressures. Not all animals respond immediately and persistence is necessary to ensure that re-training is successful. Scat is best applied in conjunction with other methods where ever possible. Providing an alternative source of food for the birds or animals will help protect the plants sprayed with Scat. How safe is Scat? Scat is a low-hazard formulation which, when applied as directed on the pack, is completely harmless to living creatures and human beings. It has no withholding period and if necessary, can easily be washed off prior to eating the fruit. It is not recommended to mix Scat with any other chemicals. Staining of some surfaces may occur. Spray a small area to test product suitability. How long does Scat last? Once applied, Scat can remain active for up to eight weeks and leaves no harmful residues. Scat can be removed with watering or heavy rain. Use of a wetter sticking agent will help Scat remain active in damp conditions. How far does Scat go? Scat is mixed at a rate of 50g/Litre of hot water and 1kg of Scat is enough to treat up to 600 square metres. When to apply Where possible, apply first application of Scat before a problem occurs or as soon as possible after the first damage is seen. With resistant animals, stronger solutions can be applied initially and treatments may need to be done more frequently. Following successful treatment, repeat applications can be made using a half strength solution. Ensure new growth is adequately protected by repeat spraying, as necessary.
